The modern day civilization may find yoga a rather tough subject to discuss. The real meaning of this ancient concept has been inundated by the quick-fix approach mentality of the modern day globalization. The real philosophy behind yoga may be complex, but modern day interpretation of yoga has reduced the confusing structure into a simpler form. Most westerners might find the contents of yoga to be rather complicated and hard to relate to. Talking about an issue you do not have a thorough understanding of, and spreading the words as the gospel truth is a risky business. Yoga is often viewed as a physical journey, instead of a spiritual one in the western part of the world. Yoga has been reduced to a physical activity to achieve internal balance and serenity.
This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. Most westerners would describe yoga as a physical practice. Yoga with its strange looking symbols may seem mystical to the average Joe, is often enough to perk up a considerable level of interest in the hidden aspects of this ancient practice, but sadly, they are often misunderstood. Operating from the wrong paradigm, yoga became a form of sports in the western world. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well.
This perception is often strengthened by the various claims made by the so called yoga masters. Research shows that yoga has been highly misunderstood in the west and therefore plenty of fatal errors were detected in the way yoga is implemented. These errors were caused by each racial group’s internal culture and form. Apparently, the west is not prepared to spend too much time in meaningful contemplations of this philosophy, hence the resulting fatal error due to a lack of understanding. While meditation is an integral part of the practice, the westerners with their ever busy lifestyles certainly do not posses time for such luxuries. The principle of Hinduism that governs the yoga practice does not recognize the greed for power and wealth, which is obviously a value of prime importance in the western world. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion. Patience and time is crucial for meditation. The westerners do not view investment in such contemplative moments for the attainment of philosophical wisdom to be beneficial.
Yoga has been accepted as a fashion. If you are interested to take up yoga as a part of your lifestyle, you can get hold of some of those materials that are available, promoting this practice as a form of sports. Even fake gurus have support from their adoring disciples. The growing influence of this unhealthy philosophy is attributed to the disciples who are loyal in spreading the word about the advantages of adopting this crooked form of yogic philosophy.
