different yoga positions
April 15th, 2009 9:01 amThe art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization is a great accomplishment, yet it is sad when people choose to oversimplify age old wisdoms and knowledge that can bring tremendous benefits to humankind such as yoga. It is amazing to see the whole philosophy fuelling yoga’s methodology being reduced to a simple concept, justified by the need to make it easy for the layperson to understand. Western civilization may find its contents to be mystical and complex, thus finds it hard to understand. Talking about an issue you do not have a thorough understanding of, and spreading the words as the gospel truth is a risky business. There is a tendency among the westerners to highlight only the physical aspects of yoga. The once respected and revered philosophy has been reduced to a mere speech of attaining inner balance and peace.
It originates from the Hindu religion and it is actually a part of the Hindu philosophy. In India, yoga is considered a very spiritual experience that has a physical aspect to it. The westerner’s viewpoint that yoga is a physical activity is very wrong and distorted. Most westerners are aware of the strange symbols associated with yoga practice, but often they are misunderstood. It is practiced as a popular sport. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well.
The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. Outside of India, that there is a high level of misunderstanding of its true nature, hence the monumental amount of mistakes that can be found in its implementation. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art. Apparently, the west is not prepared to spend too much time in meaningful contemplations of this philosophy, hence the resulting fatal error due to a lack of understanding. Sometimes, the most important part of this practice is neglected, for instance the essential meditation. Westerners have different goals and priorities, and the insatiable desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth certainly has no place in the system of values among the Hindus. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion. One needs to possess both time and patience to fully reap the rewards of a successful meditative session. The westerners do not place a high degree of importance in the attainment of philosophical wisdom, as it does for the accumulation of massive wealth and gaining power.
Yoga has been accepted as a fashion. If you wish to know more, you can get hold of some of the available materials out there which is actively promoting this practice as a form of sports; yoga can be practiced anywhere. There are famous people who embraced this practice and become fake gurus and still they have enough support from their followers. These followers have become the pillars supporting the growth of this false and wrong philosophy.
