The modern day civilization may find yoga a rather tough subject to discuss. Globalization is a great accomplishment, yet it is sad when people choose to oversimplify age old wisdoms and knowledge that can bring tremendous benefits to humankind such as yoga. In an attempt to make things easier, people have reduced a whole philosophy into one simple concept. In essence, the contents of yoga, in its entirety may be a little complicated for westerners to understand. It is always a risky affair to talk about a complex subject by merely grasping the basics. Due to the lack of a deeper understanding, most westerners view yoga as a physical activity. It is represented as a physical activity that is directed towards the achievement of inner balance and meditative states of mind.

It has its origins in the Hindu religion and is a physical manifestation representing one of the six schools of Hindu thought. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. Most westerners would describe yoga as a physical practice. Most westerners are aware of the strange symbols associated with yoga practice, but often they are misunderstood. Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial.

People are fascinated by the claims made by the yoga masters who often come with these promises. Outside of India, that there is a high level of misunderstanding of its true nature, hence the monumental amount of mistakes that can be found in its implementation. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art. Apparently, the west is not prepared to spend too much time in meaningful contemplations of this philosophy, hence the resulting fatal error due to a lack of understanding. Sometimes, the most important part of this practice is neglected, for instance the essential meditation. The greed for power and material wealth which is integral in the western culture has no place in the Hindu culture. True wisdom, as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion would be an impossible feat to achieve when this paradigm is adopted. It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. Obviously, the people from the west have no endurance to fulfill such demands.

Yoga has been accepted as a fashion. There are plenty of materials promoting it as a form of sports; you can practice yoga anywhere and anytime you want. Even the famous people who are fake yoga gurus have garnered a lot of support from their disciples. The growing influence of this unhealthy philosophy is attributed to the disciples who are loyal in spreading the word about the advantages of adopting this crooked form of yogic philosophy.
