iyengar yoga poses
February 21st, 2010 6:02 amIt may be taxing to talk about yoga in this century. The real meaning of this ancient concept has been inundated by the quick-fix approach mentality of the modern day globalization. The ancient art of yoga has been represented as a simple concept to help people gain a better understanding of the overall philosophy. In essence, the contents of yoga, in its entirety may be a little complicated for westerners to understand. It is dangerous to assume a superficial understanding of a complicated subject and speaking about it from the viewpoint of an expert. Due to the lack of a deeper understanding, most westerners view yoga as a physical activity. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.
In reality, yoga practice is a very sacred journey that has roots buried deep within the scriptures of an ancient Holy book. In India, yoga is considered a very spiritual experience that has a physical aspect to it. The westerner’s viewpoint that yoga is a physical activity is very wrong and distorted. Yoga with its strange looking symbols may seem mystical to the average Joe, is often enough to perk up a considerable level of interest in the hidden aspects of this ancient practice, but sadly, they are often misunderstood. It became a popular sport in the west. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial.
The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. Fatal errors have been detected in the practice of yoga outside of India, showing the level of misunderstanding among the western practitioners. These errors were caused by each racial group’s internal culture and form. In order to truly understand this concept moments of quiet, peaceful times are necessary to contemplate on this philosophy, and that is certainly an element that is absent in the hectic lifestyle of the western civilization. For instance, meditation is the crux of this philosophy but busy Americans do not possess the time to spend in a few hours of relative sessions every day. The greed for power and material wealth which is integral in the western culture has no place in the Hindu culture. True wisdom, as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion would be an impossible feat to achieve when this paradigm is adopted. One crucial aspect essential for a successful meditative session is time and patience. Obviously, the people from the west have no endurance to fulfill such demands.
Yoga becomes a stylish endeavor instead of a spiritual experience. It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want; there are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. Fans of famous people who later become fake gurus are adamant about supporting their idol and his practice. These followers have become the pillars supporting the growth of this false and wrong philosophy.
