Yoga does not seem to command the same form of respect from modern day society as it once did in the past. Globalization is a great accomplishment, yet it is sad when people choose to oversimplify age old wisdoms and knowledge that can bring tremendous benefits to humankind such as yoga. The whole philosophy of yoga has been reduced to a simpler concept to help people understand the concept better. The complex nature of its contents may be a little challenging for westerners to understand. It is disturbing to see a lot of people obtaining shallow understanding of this complex subject and yet remaining unhesitant to talk about it from an expert’s point of view. The West tends to focus on the physical aspects of yoga. It is represented as a physical activity that is directed towards the achievement of inner balance and meditative states of mind.

This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. Yoga as a part of India’s diverse culture and philosophy is actually a spiritual experience that includes some complicated physical moves. Viewing yoga as a physical activity is definitely a mistake. The hidden intricacies of this mysterious practice with its strange looking symbols may be successful in making the average westerner aware that there are more to yoga than physical moves alone, but nevertheless they are often misunderstood. This discipline is practiced as a popular sport. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial.

The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. The numerous amount of fatal errors found in the practice of yoga outside of India shows that this art has been widely misunderstood at large. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art. Apparently, the west is not prepared to spend too much time in meaningful contemplations of this philosophy, hence the resulting fatal error due to a lack of understanding. Sometimes, the most important part of this practice is neglected, for instance the essential meditation. Westerners have different goals and priorities, and the insatiable desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth certainly has no place in the system of values among the Hindus. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion. It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. The westerners do not place a high degree of importance in the attainment of philosophical wisdom, as it does for the accumulation of massive wealth and gaining power.

Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want; there are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. There are famous people who embraced this practice and become fake gurus and still they have enough support from their followers. Obedient disciples of this distorted form of yoga have become agents of growth of this unhealthy philosophy.
