It takes mental toughness and patience to discuss yoga in this century. It is sad that the beauty of yoga has somehow lost its brilliant luster, tarnished by the fast paced lifestyles of today’s globalization. Most people choose to describe yoga as a simple concept rather than a complex philosophy in order to help people understand better. The contents of yoga are exceptionally intricate and thus westerners may find it hard to understand. It can be disastrous to assume a fake understanding of such a complicated subject and spreading it as the absolute truth. Yoga is often viewed as a physical journey, instead of a spiritual one in the western part of the world. Yoga has been cherished as a form of physical activity that has some beneficial effects on the mind in creating peace and serenity.

It originates from the Hindu religion and it is actually a part of the Hindu philosophy. Yoga as a part of India’s diverse culture and philosophy is actually a spiritual experience that includes some complicated physical moves. But the western world prefers to refer yoga as a mere physical practice. The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. Operating from the wrong paradigm, yoga became a form of sports in the western world. It also does a good job attracting those who wish to obtain inner peace and balance in the midst of the hectic modern lifestyle.

Almost all who proclaim themselves as yoga masters perpetrate these claims and the masses are undoubtedly fascinated. The numerous amount of fatal errors found in the practice of yoga outside of India shows that this art has been widely misunderstood at large. The culture and structure of each different group influenced how yoga is being practiced. The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. For instance, meditation is the crux of this philosophy but busy Americans do not possess the time to spend in a few hours of relative sessions every day. The west seems obsessed with the desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth and gaining power, which is a priority according the principles of Hinduism. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion. It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. The westerners do not view investment in such contemplative moments for the attainment of philosophical wisdom to be beneficial.

Practicing yoga seems congruent with the need to look good to fulfill their stylish lifestyles. It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want; there are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. There are famous people who embraced this practice and become fake gurus and still they have enough support from their followers. The growing influence of this unhealthy philosophy is attributed to the disciples who are loyal in spreading the word about the advantages of adopting this crooked form of yogic philosophy.
