The modern day civilization may find yoga a rather tough subject to discuss.

This ancient concept has somehow lost its real meaning through globalization. To make it easy for the common man to understand, the whole philosophy has been reduced to a simple concept. In essence, the contents of yoga, in its entirety may be a little complicated for westerners to understand. It is dangerous to assume a superficial understanding of a complicated subject and speaking about it from the viewpoint of an expert. Often, westerners choose to focus merely on the physical aspects of yoga. There is more to yoga than the mere attainment of inner balance and serenity.

This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. But the western world prefers to refer yoga as a mere physical practice. The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. It is practiced as a popular sport. It also does a good job attracting those who wish to obtain inner peace and balance in the midst of the hectic modern lifestyle.

Disciples of yoga are often fascinated by the claims made by their yoga instructors. Research shows that yoga has been highly misunderstood in the west and therefore plenty of fatal errors were detected in the way yoga is implemented. Closer observation reveals that the unique culture of each race has dramatically influenced the way yoga is practiced. The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. Most Americans do not possess the time to spend moments in meaningful sessions of quiet meditation, which is essential for success when embracing this practice. The principle of Hinduism that governs the yoga practice does not recognize the greed for power and wealth, which is obviously a value of prime importance in the western world. Perhaps the western man shall never reach the peaks of wisdom according to the parameters set by the Hindu religion and culture. One needs to possess both time and patience to fully reap the rewards of a successful meditative session. This is what the westerners lack.

Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. There are plenty of materials promoting it as a form of sports; you can practice yoga anywhere and anytime you want. Even fake gurus have support from their adoring disciples. The disciples of these fake gurus are responsible for spreading the influence of the wrong philosophy pertaining to yoga practice.
