yoga class expressions
January 27th, 2010 10:03 amIt takes mental toughness and patience to discuss yoga in this century. It is a pity that modern day globalization has caused this amazing ancient art to be viewed as a distant and mysterious concept. The ancient art of yoga has been represented as a simple concept to help people gain a better understanding of the overall philosophy. Most westerners might find the contents of yoga to be rather complicated and hard to relate to. It is unwise to gain a shallow knowledge about a diverse topic and yet speaks about it from an expert’s viewpoint.
Westerners often view yoga as a physical activity. Today, the spiritual aspects of yoga have been diminished into a superficial understanding that places too much emphasized on achieving inner balance and meditative states.
It has its origins in the Hindu religion and is a physical manifestation representing one of the six schools of Hindu thought. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. It is unfortunate that the western world would approach yoga as a mere physical activity. Yoga with its strange looking symbols may seem mystical to the average Joe, is often enough to perk up a considerable level of interest in the hidden aspects of this ancient practice, but sadly, they are often misunderstood. Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Nevertheless many have been attracted to yoga as a form of practice to achieve inner peace and balance.
The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. There is plenty of evidence to show that yoga has been wrongly implemented in the West. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art. The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. For instance, meditation is the crux of this philosophy but busy Americans do not possess the time to spend in a few hours of relative sessions every day. The principle of Hinduism that governs the yoga practice does not recognize the greed for power and wealth, which is obviously a value of prime importance in the western world. Perhaps the western man shall never reach the peaks of wisdom according to the parameters set by the Hindu religion and culture. To gain maximum benefits from each meditation session, one needs to spare time and exercise tremendous patience in carrying out each essential part of the practice. Obsessed with the need to accumulate as much wealth as possible, therefore the thought of having to spend time in such sessions would be considered a mere waste of precious time.
Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports; in fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. There are famous people who embraced this practice and become fake gurus and still they have enough support from their followers. Obedient disciples of this distorted form of yoga have become agents of growth of this unhealthy philosophy.
